FIFA World Cup 2010 Draw

WC 2010 Grouping

Demam World Cup baru nak mula. Baru2 ni FIFA buat draw utk tentukan grouping 32 negara yg layak utk bertanding kat South Africa bulan Jun 2010 nanti. According to FIFA, South Africa is all geared up to host the world most watched event. 10 stadiums are waiting the teams from all over the world. But the highlight will be at the newly built Green Point Stadium, Cape Town.

Sekali tgk pada grouping, nampaknya mcm saingan lebih pada Group A. The controversial France is grouped together dgn Mexico, Uruguay and tuan rumah South Africa. All 3 countries are known for their capability as "giant killer". South Africa lak have the advantage being the host nation, sure semangat lebih.

Another interesting group is probably Group G. Brazil dgn Portugal satu group. Most people predicted, these two teams will be the favorites for semis nanti. We'll see how la.

Nampak gaya Jun 2010 nanti ramai la orang akan MC, dtg opis lambat, ngantuk kat opis for a very obvious reason. Whatever it is, hopefully World Cup 2010 will be an interesting event for the football (soccer for you Americans) fans all over the world..

Fish Spa

At last merasa jugak nak buat fish spa... First time dengar dulu tak sempat nak try. Time tu tau ader kat Pavillion je and that time just few days before going to the US. Ingat lagi, time tu jugak baru lepas makan kat Fridays.

This time around, lepak2 kat Fridays again, with the same people (minus 1) and terus tak lepaskan peluang utk try fish spa tu. Price still the same... RM38 for 30 minutes.

Mula nampak ikan besor terkejut badak jap! Mak ai!! besornyer ikan! Berani ke nak letak kaki dlm kolam tu??? Rupanyer normally org try dgn ikan kecik dulu in different kolam. Geli gillerrrr!!! Tapi after 1-2 mins hilang la rasa geli tu... Rugi la kalau asyik dok geli2 nak letak kaki dlm tu kan, 30 mins je, takleh buang masa! hehehe...

Its Thanksgiving Day

Its a day to share the kindness and thoughts. Its a day to give thanks to others.

Thanksgiving ni actually is a Northern American celebration and holiday. Kalau ikut History Channel, the original idea of Thanksgiving is to celebrate the harvest festival in fall/autumn. Kira mcm pesta menuai kita. Its the time when the Americans celebrate and express their thanks for all the efforts. Kononnya it was first celebrated in the year 1621. Thanksgiving also marked the 25 days countdown to Xmas.

But now, its kinda like a tradition where the American family, dined in at their home and festive themselves with the best meals. Traditionally turkey mesti kena ada, and variety of pies for desserts. Normally the American family will dined in on the eve of Thanksgiving day, which is the fourth Thursday of the month of November. Kira mcm "makan besar" on Chinese New Year's eve la.

People from all over the States will travel back home to be back with their family. This is another big thing selain dari Xmas for the Americans. Ada gak elemen balik kampung diorang ni. Tgk dlm news katanya there will be more than 41 million people traveling for the Thanksgiving. Hebat jugak.

There's another new traditions after Thanksgiving known as the Black Friday. It will a BIG SALES all over US. The stores will be opened as early as midnight after Thanksgiving sampai the weekend. We already have our plan with vivavouge and family plus mr Shan to head down to Woodbury Premium Outlet for Black Friday. All of us really looking forward for this trip. Walaupun kena travel jauh, tapi Black Friday punya pasal kami teruskan perjuangan...

We don't really bother about Thanksgiving since we're not celebrating it. However, for those celebrating it, Happy Thanksgiving.

Daylight savings time

Today at 2am, is the end of daylight savings time in US. We are now adding another one hour late, which make us 13 hrs behind from M'sian time. Nak ganti puasa pun sgt sesuai skrg nie coz maghrib masuk kul 4.45pm and makin cepat by day.

Yayyy!!! Dapat kad raya!!!

Terima kasih atas kiriman kad raya. Kad raya pertama (mungkin juga the one and only) yg kami terima pd tahun ini :) Terima kasih atuk, nenek, cik nah, angah, auntie ixo, and uncle E. Nak kirim kad gak, tapi tak tau ader ke jual kad raya kat sini??? Tak pernah jumpa plak! Season greetings ader la ;) Kreatif!!! Idea saper lah agaknyer nie yek tampal2 pics dlm kad tu?

Teringat maser zaman2 asrama dulu, setiap dorm akan bertukar2 kad raya buatan dorm masing2. Normally setiap kad tu sure ader gambar2 kartun yg akan wakilkan setiap ahli dorm. Dorm maner yg ader org terer melukis... cantik ler kartun2nyer... Kad2 tu plak biasernyer akan digantung dlm dorm, hias utk dorm terbuka sempena sambutan hari raya kat sekolah. Dorm terbuka mmg ditunggu2 oleh semua pelajar coz boleh bebas kuar masuk asrama lelaki or pompuan ;)

Kalau kat sekolah mr ayah lak, hostel boys, jgn harap lak nak ada kad raya mcm ni. Abis pun, before cuti raya berarak la ramai2 dari satu bilik ke satu bilik. Bersalam2 raya sambil mintak maaf. Balik dari cuti raya baru la nak meriah, all the company line mula buat "open house". Tapi takde la nak ada ketupat, rendang ni. Takat kuih raya dgn air oren je la.

hmmm... means mrs mama's school lagi meriah la! ;) On our last day before balik cuti raya, we would have all the students and teachers berbaris for salam raya. The most juniors will start first, bersalam raya with the seniors and teachers. Kira last day tu mcm dah tak belajar la. Ramai yg sibuk bertukar2 kad raya. Ader gak yg main selit2 bawah meja ;) Lepas balik dr cuti raya, ader hari terbuka. Selain dr dorm terbuka tu, earlier we would have jamuan makan for all students. The food lengkap la mcm kat maner2 raya gathering. Siap bakar2 lemang segala. Then ader persembahan from the students, normally from each dorm. Or sometimes wakil tingkatan je. Ala... rindu la!!!

So, korang dah dpt kad raya ke??? Soalan nie ditujukan terutamanyer pd kengkawan yg berada di perantauan juga. Yg kat m'sia tak aci la nak tanya... sure dah berlambak kan ;)

Anyway, since tinggal lagi lebih kurang 10-11 hari je nak puasa... kami together-gather ingin mengucapkan Selamat Hari Raya Aidilfitri pd kawan2 semua... minta maaf kalau pernah buat silap. Biler beraya tu ingat2lah pd kengkawan di perantauan juga... :)

Pengalaman berpuasa

Salam Ramadhan... Sekarang baru masuk minggu ke-2 kita berpuasa. Masih belum terlambat kalau hendak mengucapkan selamat berpuasa pd semua. Starting next week mesti org dah mula wish selamat hari raya pulak. Kalau di M'sia dah mula terima/hantar kad raya. Takde saper ke nak kirim kad raya pd kami di sini??? ;)

Bercerita ttg berpuasa, ini adalah kali ke-2 kami berpuasa di rantauan. Pengalaman pertama adalah semasa berada di Guinea, dan ke-2 di US of A nielah...

Kalau di Guinea dulu (year 2000), both of us bekerja... jadi tugas2 memasak utk berbuka mmg dilakukan oleh our cook. Waktu berbuka puasa adalah lebih kurang sama seperti di M'sia. Mula2 makan je la aper yg cook masak. Tapi makin hari makin tak lalu... Since balik kerja diawalkan, dlm pukul 4.30pm... and atas persetujuan tekak2 yg lain, mrs mama decided to cook (that time mrs mama sorang je pompuan yg keje dgn company tu di guinea). Bahan2 masakan mintak cook sediakan awal2. Tapi ader gak one dish yg cook tu sediakan mmg sgt sedap, ayam bakar... Teringat that time ader la few days tu menu kami samer jek sbb semua org setuju nak makan ayam bakar tu. So mrs mama just sediakan nasi goreng and sup. Sesekali kalau jumpa tauge, buat gak la mee bandung. Kuih-muih mmg takde sgt la... Kalau ader pun yg goreng2 je... cook yg buat.


Now in US of A... kami treat buka puasa samer mcm we eat our dinner. Makanan buka puasa mcm biaser... nasi, lauk and sayur. Tambahan, ader la serunding (from Taiping with love, mom's best serunding), telur masin Mydin (thanks to uncle who brought it over 3 weeks ago, hand carry lagi... lepas!!!). For manis2, buat la jelly and beli tembikai, nie dah terbiasa, kat umah keramat tiap2 hari buka puasa mesti ader tembikai sirap. Sesekali buat gak la mee kari and will surely akan buat gak bihun goreng, mee goreng, and nasi ayam...


Walau bagaimanapun the best buka puasa will still be in M'sia. With all the kuih-muih varieties... mmg rambang mata! time nie la nak tgk kuih-muih yg tak pernah tgk, tak pernah dgr... mcm2 ada, mcm2 ruper, mcm2 nama :D Selalunyer kami berbuka di luar. Village view, bangi antara tempat faveret... kdg tu kat food court alamanda je (kalau nasib dpt tempat). Sesekali buffet hotel... weekend, kat umah Keramat.

PARAM kat Putrajaya, last year tak jengah langsung... bukan sedap pun! teringat last 2 yrs pernah nak try beli satu lauk daging kat sorang pakcik kelate nie... mrs mama mintak for rm1 je (nak rasa dulu kot2 tak sedap lak)... pakcik tu siap perli kalau rm1 tak rasa aper la... tapi mrs mama tetap beli rm1 walaupun dpt seciput jek. Waktu berbuka, lauk daging tu la yg tak habis coz teramat masin!!! kalah telur masin!!! teraser mcm nak je bungkus, esok pi pulangkan balik!!! Tapi tak sampai hati walaupun dok terbayang2 je muka pakcik tu perli depan2 semua org!

Anyways, selamat berpuasa to all... walau di mana anda berada. Pada yg PARAM hopping, selamat menjamu mata :)

Keinsafan di Hari Jumaat

Cuaca hari Jumaat agak mendung hari ni. Nampak macam nak hujan, tapi langit cerah je. Maybe petang2 nanti nak hujan la kot agaknya. Masa sampai New Haven Islamic Center orang dah ramai, dah sampai pun agak lewat. Berdiri je la depan pintu tunggu time orang nak start sembahyang nanti ada la ruang nak mencelah.

Selesai solat, Sheikh yg jadi Imam tu pun buat announcement, hari ni ada sembahyang jenazah. Ada sorang hamba Allah ni baru je umur 28 tahun dah kembali bertemu Ilahi. Muda lagi. Siapa dan apa sebab dia meninggal tak pulak dikhabarkan. Selesai solat jenazah, katanya jenazah nak dibawa ke Hartford utk dikebumikan. Mulanya dgn sorang sahabat tu ingat nak pegi ikut sekali, tapi since Hartford tu jauh sangat, tak jadi la.

Bila direnung balik, timbul rasa insaf. Ajal datang tak tentu masa, tak kira siapa kita. Sama2 la kita memperlengkapkan diri.

Needs and Wants

Kat US ni banyak gak la gadgets yang best and up-to-date. Harga pulak kira reasonable and even cheaper kalau nak compare dengan the one that we have in Malaysia. Its kinda cheap actually, but the thoughts of spending the allowances for those gadgets, not really a good move. Better spend the money elsewhere.

Some of the gadgets ni sebelum beli rasa macam best je kalau dapat, tapi bila dah ada, takut tak fully utilize. For instance, game console mcm Nintendo Wii or PS3, takut before beli berangan je nak main. Bila dah beli nanti, tak de time nak main, or even worse, asyik main sampai tak buat keja lain. Either options are bad, I know.

This dilemma reminds me the Psychology 101 class during Undergrad years, the dilemma is actually a conflict to fulfill your needs and wants. Even though, I never enjoyed the class due to the lecturer, but it suddenly does make some sensed. Needs are the those requirements to fulfill the basic necessity of life; clothes, shelter and foods. In contrast to the wants, its for of fulfillment of the desire. What ever it is, its all falls back to the basic. Bak kata pepatah Melayu, "Ukurlah baju di badan sendiri". Its almost true in respect to the peribahasa, lagipun buat apa ukur baju untuk orang lain pakai.

Among my wishlist are as follows:

1. Nintendo Wii or PS3 - both at the range of $300

2. GPS Navigator - around $200 *dah ader dlm e90. just need to purchase navigation function, peta leh download free
3. HDTV - around $500
4. iPhone - 2 options ($399 - 8Gb or $499 16Gb)

5. Taylormade R7 golf set - around $399
6. Prince O3 Hybrid Hornet Tennis Racquect - $99

Side notes: Selection handphones kat US sangat la tak best. Not like the wide range of selections macam yang kita ada kat Malaysia. Sini handphones semua basic, kalau nak extra features pun cuma ada Blackberry and iPhone je la.

I'm sure the other half of together-gather pun ada her own wishlist...

It's tax time!!!

It's income tax time!!! Every year, around this time lah orang mula sibuk pasal income tax. Those yg dah start guna E-Filing, baru nak tercari2 maner Digicert from previous tax. Those yg masih guna borang, dok tercari2 kat maner la borang yg LHDN hantar few months ago. Towards end of April, website LHDN pun boleh jadi slow.


For us, this year is our 3rd year using E-Filing. Senang banyak guna E-Filing nie, takyah nak calculate sendiri :D Tambah lak tahun nie berada di US, dgn E-Filing tak yah kisah la berada di mana2 pun, asal ader internet. Kami dah siap dah pun isi cukai taksiran 2007. Tapi belum submit, masih cuba percayakan diri sendiri jumlah cukai yg perlu dibayar tu. Adusss!!!


Next year boleh lega sket la kot coz sorang jek yg bergaji. Sorang lagi tak bergaji for 1 year. Boleh letak semua tanggungan kat satu form jek. So aper lagi korang??? dah mula kira cukai ke?

Easter

We are not celebrating Easter. To us, the day (Friday) before Easter means CUTI. So it will be a long weekend. Gonna take this opportunity to go jenjalan. Will report about it later.

Pasal Easter, Harith's school held an Easter party today. They have Easter baskets for the kids. The contents of the baskets were contributed by the parents. We contributed cookies. To Harith, it was just a party, ader makan2 and play around with friends. They have Easter game during the party.










Btw, Happy Birthday to atuk Harith in Keramat (20th March 2008). Semoga panjang umur dan sihat sentiasa... Love from all of us in US...

Its Friday again. Friday afternoon is the time when the male Muslims went to perform the Friday Prayer. Its a mandatory for the male to perform the prayer, unless you have some solid reasons not to. Some Muslim scholars even made compulsory to the women too. I do remember there was an Ustaz (means male teacher in Arabic, but normally we refer them as the religious teacher) once shared his experience saying that in Mecca, during Friday prayer, people just left their business premises unattended to perform the prayer without any worries. I don't think that'll work elsewhere.

I am not a religious scholar nor the right person to lecture regarding the Friday prayer. However, during my college days, I do remember associating Friday prayer with having cendol after the prayer. Without fail, there will always be the cendol guy waiting outside the mosque in Seksyen 19, Shah Alam. Under the hot sunny day, the thought of having a cold cendol really quenched the thirst. Sometimes, we did have 2 or more servings. Please bare in mind that, we are not the only one were rushing for the cendol, there others too. Normally ordered few servings in advance just to avoid the queue.

Cendol [pronounced 'chen-dul'] or es cendol is a traditional dessert originating from Java, Indonesia, but is also popular in Malaysia, Singapore, and Southern Thailand (where it is called lorkchorng singapore ลอดข่องสิงคโปร์). The dessert's basic ingredients consist of shaved ice, coconut milk, starch noodles with green food coloring (usually sourced from the pandan leaf), and palm sugar. Red beans, glutinous rice, grass jelly, and creamed corn are optional additions. See... I've told you earlier why Friday prayer reminds me of cendol. However, my preference is still having cendol by roadside instead of in a fancy restaurants. My top 5 ranking are as follow:

1. Depan Telekom Sungai Besi (now no more)
2. Behind Petronas Jalan Kolam Air, Ampang (the one with Craven, also moved)
3. Seksyen 19, Shah Alam mosque (only available on Friday, and same guy selling at Seksyen 18)
4. Near Old Post Office Taman Melawati
5. In front kedai motor nearby Menara Celcom (formerly known as Wisma Telekom Semarak)

Mana nak carik cendol kat US of A? I heard at Warong Selera they sell. Hmmmm...
