Nintendo DS Lite

Nintendo DS Lite (NDS Lite) ni basically lbh kurang sama je dgn the original NDS. Cuma the size is reduced to two-third from the original NDS. Functionality still the same. Gameplay pun still the same.

We bought the NDS Lite for Littleman for his 5th birthday this year. Beli kat Toys r Us Times Square, NYC yg Eriq sabotage kitorang that day. Before coming to the US last year, we bought a PSP Slim, which utk littleman main during the loonggg flight. Few weeks before littleman's birthday, boleh la pulak screen PSP tu crack.



The NDS Lite game console comes in Polar White, Onyx (black), Coral Pink, Crimson (red and black), or Cobalt (blue and black) in color. Ours is Cobalt. A fully charge NDS Lite will be able to last for between 5 to 7 hours of battery lifetime. Tapi siapa la pulak yg mengadap benda ni sampai 5-6 jam tak berenti.

NDS Lite ni, ada 2 screens. The bottom screen is a touchscreen. Depending on the games, sometimes we have to use the touchscreen instead of the controller. Sometimes you have to use both. The touchscreen is cool especially while playing games because you feel the interactiveness more compared to using the normal control pad. Even though it came together with a stylus (and few spares) the touchscreen is sensitive enough for your finger. Littleman most of the time uses his finger, instead of the stylus.

The NDS Lite comes with 2 cartridge slots for NDS games and Gameboy Advance (GBA) games cartridges. No internal memory comes together with the NDS Lite. NDS Lite also allows multiplayer games using WiFi (IEEE 802.11) enabled game cartridges. The dsiplay and sound produced by the NDS Lite is fairly good. 2D/3D graphic accelerator allow some 3D games to run on the console.

Even though the graphics and games tak berapa best compared to PSP, NDS Lite is considerably good enough. Boleh la layan all the games. Balik Malaysia next year, mmg nak kena repair screen PSP tu, kat sini mahal sangat la nak repair...

2009 Buick Enclave CXL

Since there are lots of inquiries from our friends regarding our ride for the week, we decided to write a short review based on our experience for the whole week. Please take note that the review is based on personal experience of a non-professional auto critics expert.

At a glance the Buick Enclave CXL is a head turner. A classy and elegant touch of a crossover SUV makes it stunning. The Buick comes together with a standard 17" front wheel and 18" rear wheel. The twin chrome exhaust tips makes the rear appearance more attractive.




The interior is really classy. Heated leather seats and wooden finished panel really makes it a class of its own. Sporty and elegant, I would say. The cabin size is spacious, enough to cater 7 to 8 passengers maximum; 6 to 7 passengers comfortably. The 3rd row can be converted to more cargo area. Without the 3rd row, I can say it can fits in 4 full size golf bags. Fuel consumption is quite reasonable. Full tank will cost you around $80 and will be able to last around 350 miles (based on our experience).

We managed to clocked 1,500 miles of mileage; mostly on highways. We traveled around CT, Washington DC, Virginia, Pennsylvania and Boston. The ride was smooth since the engine is so quiet. Acceleration picks up as expected on a 275hp engine. We hardly noticed that we have reach 90 mph within seconds. The brakes come with ABS, and it works really well. However, based on my personal experience, the deceleration took a bit longer than I expected. You really have to familiarized with the car to know the right timing when to hit the break. Suspension was excellent, on a bumpy road, we hardly feel it.

The car comes with a lot of high tech features such as CD player with MP3 and XM radio, memory pre-set for 2-driver customizable seating adjustment, sensor for automatic lights, HID Xenon lights, OnStar (Direction and Connection) and Driver Information Center (info on temperatures, tires pressures etc.)

Overall, the Buick Enclave CXL is a great car. It combines the sporty and elegant style. For a crossover of its class such as the Volvo XC90 and BMW X5, it is as good as its rivals.

Merasa Jadi Orang Kaya

We received visitors from mrs. mama family. Jadi bila ada visitors ni, akan bermula la episod baru Jenjalan US 2008 yg seterusnya. Tapi before that, kena la prepare all the necessary logistics apa yg patut. (and we also got food stocks from m'sia... serunding, specially cooked by littleman's opah and telur masin for bulan puasa... best best!!!)

Kami booked a minivan for this trip, since legally tak boleh nak sumbat semua orang dlm sebijik sedan. Kat sini nama je minivan, tapi tak mini pun. Size pun ala2 Naza Ria je pun. Enough to cater 7 passengers maximum. As usual, tempat yg kami biasa buat rent-a-car ni call la for confirmation bla bla bla... Sekali tu, boleh pulak diorang bagitau kata the minivan yg kitorang nak tu, orang yg menyewa tu nak extend lagi. Aduh! Mana la nak carik kereta/van pulak ni. Tapi diorang kata, dtg je kat opis diorang and they'll work something out. Nasib baik la dah kira regular customer.

Kat opis diorang, diorang offer a substitute car; a BRAND NEW Buick Enclave CXL 2009. YES! A brand new ride yg baru clock 780 miles. Its actually a crossover; a luxury crossover. And it'll be our 1st ride on such type, since kami dah sewa mcm2 jenis kereta dari situ. Dari compact car sampai la pick-up truck, semua dah pernah merasa. They also agreed to give the same rate as the minivan. So, its a good deal la. :D

This Buick Enclave 2009 is a real beauty. Lengkap dgn all the high tech accessories. Big size and can cater up till 8 passengers (3 rows seating). Yang 3rd row tu kalau baringkan, mmg besar tak ingat tempat cargo area. Silap2 boleh sumbat 4 full size beg golf.

Cuma yg kami risau is the fuel consumption later. Diorang claim, for a 3.2L V6 @ 275 hp, fuel consumption is around 25 MPG on highway. Tengok la mcm mana nanti...

It has been almost 2 months now since Shadow is around. As of July 31, she clocked only at 75 miles. Most of the time Shadow was used for leisure ride and groceries shopping. So far, it is a great bike. Physical wise, she's a beauty. The long, low and wide fender with retro styling design really makes her stunning. Some might see her as the little sister of Harley Davidson's Fat Boy, which physically there's some resemblance (at least, from my point of view). The Dark Candy Red color with chromes really blends well together.

In terms of performance, I'm really happy with it for now. The muscular 750cc V-twin SOHC engines gives you the performance as expected. The mid-sized engine enough to drag the 550 lb bike to swoosh like a high performance cruisers on the street. I rode this bike on average speed between 40 to 55 mph. I know it can go faster than that, but I choose not to. She's a cruiser, not a superbike. You're supposedly to enjoy cruising on this bike, not race on it.

Handling the bike for a first timer is not that bad. You can adapt to its handling style after sometimes riding it. For those who are used to handling cruisers, handling Shadow is not a problem. The weight, handlebars and mid-sized engine are all in appropriate ratio.

Being a Japanese bike, the fuel consumption is really economical. In average, it can go up to 55 MPG on a normal street and up to 60 MPG for highways. That means, with a full tank, Shadow can clock an average of 200 MPG. What more can you asked? With the global increase of the price of petroleum, Shadow can really helps to streamlined your budget.

Shadow produces a reasonably loud sound from its tailpipe. It's not as loud as a Harley, but the sound that comes from the engine is really sweet for motorcycle enthusiasts. You can always upgrade to a Cobra exhaust system with K&N air filter to "sweeten" the sound. But, I choose to keep the stock exhaust system, for now.

Overall, the VT750C8 is really a great bike for rookies or experience riders. As Honda quoted, "The Honda Shadow Aero - Full-sized looks and 750cc performance without the full-sized price tag." However, I wished some other features that are lacking such as tachometer, fuel indicator and top speed / gear indicator should come together with it. Nothing major, but if these features are made available, it would be a plus point. Again, it is really a great bike!

Makan2 and MRI

Last saturday we had makan2 session at one of the m'sian house here. It was a farewell for a guy who is going back (for good) to M'sia bumi tercinta. Dgr je nak pi keluar, littleman la org yg paling excited... psl dpt keluar rumah :D Kesian betul la littleman nie, since summer break nie mati kutu duk umah jek!

The farewell was held outdoor, ader bbq sekali. Food mmg bykkk... potluck, and we brought dessert. Crowd... the usual crowd plus few others yg kitaorg tak pernah jumpa.

Ader this one guy, baru balik from M'sia. Balik for 3 mths, jaga mak dier sakit. Balik ke US, he told others about his mom's treatment. His mom ada kena buat MRI, and ada lah salah sorang nie mcm kagum M'sia dah ader MRI. Wah!!! dah baper tahun tak balik M'sia nie? Ke tak amik port psl perkembangan di M'sia? Mr ayah once did MRI in 1997 at Ampang Puteri. We believe MRI technology had arrived in M'sia long before that.

iPhone 3G - Unleashed

Apple Inc. launches the new iPhone 3G worldwide on Friday, July 11th 2008. Unfortunately, Malaysia was not one of the participating country for this gadget. I wonder why? The nearest for the Malaysians to get an iPhone 3G is in Singapore. However, Apple is smart enough to "take charge" of their market by having "teaming agreement" with the major telco provider of that country. For instance, in the USA, Apple teamed up with AT&T, in Germany with T-Mobile, Swisscomm in Switzerland and Singtel in Singapore.

No doubt that iPhone is a sleek gadget in terms of look with intelligent features. The Multi-Touch display is really a seller. It makes navigation at ease especially with the wide screen. Accelerometer is another extra function that add a plus point to it. Whenever you move/rotate the phone, the screen will automatically adjust to portrait/landscape mode automatically. Cool, huh?

Connectivity? 3G, WiFi, GPS et all. You name it they have it. Tapi tak sure pulak GPS and map tu ada map Malaysia or not. Kalau tak, tak berbaloi la beli kat sini. Beli kalau bawak balik, tak boleh fully utilize the functions, no point la.

Anyhow, regardless whatever the technology offers (most of the time, the gimmick that have been featured by the ads), the bottom line is do we really need it? Unless you're still using Nokia 3310 or MT V3, I guess it's worth an investment for upgrading. Or else, this gadget will end up as normal phone. Think twice before investing.

As for us, the temptation is there, but we settle for our E90 while it lasted.

Our series of digital camera

We started to own a digital camera in early 2004. Lambat la jugak considering that time dah pelbagai models berada di pasaran. Why at last in 2004 we finally bought a camera? Very simple answer, because we have a son, Harith. Sejak lahir dah byk ambil gambar, tapi camera pinjam. Nak pinjam sampai biler? Budak cepat membesar, nanti byk pulak termiss his progress.

Our 1st camera was Sony Cybershot DSC F77, 4.0mp. Model nie yg lens boleh pusing2, main reason why we chose this model. Senang nak snap gambar sendiri ;)

Next camera was Canon Ixus 500, 5.0mp. Time nie berpikir2 nak jual sony cybershot. Canon Ixus produces better quality picture. So tanpa disedari Sony Cybershot bagai dilupakan. Until one day teringat nak guna the camera, cari2 tak jumpa. Baru terperasan the camera dah hilang. Hilang kat opis Azrul, that was the last place the camera was stored/seen. Ralat la jugak coz that was our 1st camera, which cost us about RM1500. Kalau jual separuh harga pun sedap la jugak. Anyway memang takde rezeki...

We once again upgraded our camera to a better model, Canon Ixus 750, 7.1mp. We have it in Satin Beige color. The old Ixus 500 was sold to our brother in law. We used this camera about 1 year before Azrul decided to buy a semi-pro camera. After we got another new camera, we let Harith play around with the Ixus 750. Harith started snap pictures, especially his favorite character, Thomas & Friends. He even loves to snap pictures of himself. But being a 4-yr(time tu la) old kid, of coz he will be very careless in handling the camera. I found the camera laying under a bed with the lens open. The lens were stuck and cannot be closed. We sent the camera to Canon service which would cost us RM500 to replace the lens. We decided to let go the camera as it is.

The semi-pro camera that we bought was Canon PowerShot S5 IS, 8.0mp. It is big. Tak boleh la I nak bawak suka2 hati letak dlm handbag, amatlah tak practical. Mulalah rindu balik nak guna camera kecik. Paling tak puashati maser our 2nd trip to Bali last year. Bila2 raser nak snap picture with single hand memang susah. So mula la berkira2 to get another camera. Tak secanggih our previous Ixus pun takpe, janji ader and it must be small.

There goes next camera, Canon Ixus i⁷ zoom, 7.1mp. Puashati! hehehe... :-D
Seems like we are so into Canon product. Yup! very true... For a digital camera, we will definitely go for Canon. Good quality for still picture and video.

Nokia E90

It has been about a year since both of us start using this phone. Through out that period, it has been serving us very well. Dah merata dah phone ni travel, sampai la kat US ni pun pakai lagi. This is for one simple reason, the phone still in good condition.

Nokia E90 is also known as the 10th generation of Nokia Communicator family. In actual fact, we have never used any of the Nokia Communicator before. This is our first time to own a Communicator. We migrated from Dopod (now HTC); Windows based PDA phone to the Nokia E90; a 3rd Generation Symbian 60. Both of us tidak termasuk dalam kategori orang yang kerap tukar handphone especially bila model baru keluar. Since both of us are IT graduates, we kinda have some interest in technical gadgets and widgets.

Why Nokia E90? Physically it is a bulky phone that comes in 2 colors; red and mocha, and weighs around 200 gram. It does not fits in your palm nicely since it's big. However, what comes with it is a major success. A Quad band frequencies I guess is a rather standard package with most mobile phones nowadays, HSDPA + UMTS (3G and EDGE) + GSM (850, 900, 1800, 1900) makes communication on the go really "going over the limit". Tak lupa juga ada WiFi 802.11 b/g. You can get mobile on your voice and data almost anywhere across the globe; provided the telco provider offers such services. Voice and video calls, fax, SMS, MMS and also emails (POP, IMAP or Blackberry - using 3rd party application). Other connectivity such Bluetooth, Infra red and USB support.

We do utilize the Office functionality of the Nokia E90. Word processing, spreadsheets, presentation viewer, PDF documents viewer, converter and file manager. I did store documents required for a meeting, seminar or even class in the Nokia E90. It's so convenient having the documents around in your phone. You can later email or beam to your colleague instantaneously.

Nokia E90 comes with Global Positioning System (GPS) capability. Maps are free for downloads. However, the navigation functions is available for download with minimal subscription fees (weekly, monthly or annually). The GPS functionality really helps a lot when we are traveling. We can plan our trip ahead, and have the navigation to guide you through your trip plus for confirmation you can use the navigation as a digital compass. Travel made easy with Nokia E90.

As for multimedia capability, Nokia E90 can handle most audio and video files. It also comes with FM radio. Nokia E90 comes with a 3.2 megapixel camera with flash, 20x digital zoom, night mode, AF, Red-eye reduction and self timer. The camera also able to capture a 30fps video. The length of the video depends on the size of your hot swappable microSD memory card. We hardly use the multimedia functionality since this is not our interest. Furthermore we do have Creative Zen Vision for that.

In a nutshell, Nokia E90 is a great gadget. It's more than just a phone or a PDA. It's a tool for the world of mobility. We are happy with it. Can't even think of additional functionality for the Nokia E90 except for touch screen capability. With this enhancement, you can navigate quite convenient, and adapting Graffiti to it is a plus.

Hidup tanpa batasan...

Hari minggu baru ini bermula dengan cuaca yang sangat baik. Sang mentari menampakkan sinarnya. Suhu pada hari minggu ni sekitar 50 darjah Fahrenheit. Cukup baik bagi kawasan New England ini. Walaupun sepatutnya musim bunga atau Spring telah bermula, namun keadaan di sini masih lagi sejuk. Kata orang sini, tunggu musim panas atau Summer baru kita akan melalui bahang mentari yang sebenar. Buat masa ini, bersabarlah menghadapi hari-hari yang mendatang dalam keadaan sejuk.

Pada lewat pagi hari minggu yang indah, tuan rumah kami mempelawa sekiranya kami mahu turut serta mengikut mereka membeli belah di pasar raya Walmart. Memandangkan kami sememangnya tiada peracangan yang spesifik, kami bersetuju. Sebelum ke Walmart, kami mengambil keputusan untuk melihat di mana letaknya lokasi Forest Elementary School. Sekolah yang bakal menjadi sekolah Harith pada bulan September kelak. Takpe, cerita pasal Forest Elementary, kita buka topic lain.

Dipendekkan cerita, bila dah ada kat Walmart tu, kami pun beli la barang keperluan apa yang patut. So far from our observations, barang kat Walmart ni paling murah antara banyak-banyak tempat yang kami survey. Dalam banyak-banyak barang keperluan tu, kami selit sekali beli wireless router.

Kat sini pelik sikit. So far kami tak ada jumpa wireless ADSL modem router macam yang ada kat Malaysia. Senang sikit kalau guna satu device je. Kalau ada pun dijual oleh Internet Service Provider. Macam dalam kes kami, AT&T la. Ambik AT&T pun sebab tu je service yang paling murah. Masa order service dulu memang dah mintak ADSL wireless modem router. Tapi bila dia deliver, hantar ADSL modem je. Nak tukar balik rasa macam malas pulak mengenangkan customer service yang sangat la tak friendly. Nasib baik current modem dapat balik rebet $49.99.

Sejarah nak pasang internet kat umah nie quite interesting. Kami ader 3 phone ports. Once we applied for the internet, org AT&T pun dtg la nak activate line dlm umah nie. 3-3 ports boleh pakai. Then package from AT&T arrived. Kena tunggu another week until ADSL line activated. Once dah activated, setup la sendiri. Tak berjaya... Call support, dtg la sorang technician. Tu pun lepas dah beberapa kali kena pass sana, pass sini. The technician godek sana, godek sini, dier deactivate 2 of our phone ports. Then berjayalah kami connect to the internet. 2 days later, tak boleh connect. Hmmm... apsal lak nie??? Call support lagi... dtg org lain pulak. Check sana, check sini... seems ok. At last dier pi check tiang line kat luar rumah nun. Katernyer one of the wire kat tiang tu crack. So biler angin kuat sikit, or burung dtg hinggap ke, tergoyang2 la. Tu yg mcm tak stabil jek. Esoknyer dtg la lori AT&T dgn crane tu, repair wire tu. So actually problem dr awal adalah wire kat luar tu, takde kena-mengena pun dgn phone ports dlm umah nie.

Balik pada cerita wireless router ni, kami beli Belkin F5D7230-4 Wireless-G 54Mbps Broadband Router. Harga dia tak mahal, around $38.99. Kira ambil rebet dari AT&T yang kami dapat $49.99 tolak harga router ni, kami untung dalam $10. Kira bagus la tu, kan.

Wireless router ni lain dari modem router yang kami guna kat Malaysia. Kalau kat Malaysia dulu satu device je guna sambung kat Streamyx, terus satu rumah WiFi. Ni kat sini, kena connect kat ADSL modem. Kira kena ada 2 device yang berasingan. Layan je la, kan. Kalau tak nanti tak wireless la pulak.

Balik je rumah, kami terus la setup router kami ni. Sungguh tak sangka, punya la senang nak setup. Connect dengan ADSL modem kami, terus je dapat signal. Dah settle setup, baru kami "secure"kan network kami ni. Kalau tak nanti, maunya ada orang lain menumpang sekaki. Macam la kami tak pernah buat, kan? Hehehe. Standard, nak hidup. Actually earlier dah pernah beli Linksys router ($48.99), tapi ader factory defect kot, lampu tak nyala2 pun. Hampesss jek!!! Sib baik la leh pulangkan balik tanpa byk soal.

Jadinya pada hari Ahad, Mac 30, 2008, bermula era baru dalam hidup kami kat sini. Kehidupan tanpa batasan (wayar) dalam rumah sendiri. Have to la... since both of us bawak laptop. So skrg takde la sorang online, sorang offline.

Is It Safe to Lie Anymore?

I had an interesting evening class on Tuesday for NSP602. Dr. T had invited his former colleague during his days working with one of those 3 letters agency. Being in a course where all topics are serious and heavy, I have the perception that this guest speaker will be a boring one. Knowing people that works with one of those 3 letters agency, and the stuff they do, I was expecting a very long evening.

Our guest speaker had served the agency for more than 34 years and 2/3 of his service, he was doing "Polygraph". He's now retired. He was the best polygraph examiner in the agency. We were all quite fortunate to have him as a guest speaker. His vast experienced doing polygraph for various reasons really impressed us. His involvement in major cases in the past really deserved an applause. He talked to us on the reliability of the polygraph test to examine the psycho physiological or defection indication or in normal term known as lie detection.

A polygraph is an instrument that measures and records several physiological responses such as blood pressure, pulse, respiration and skin conductivity while the subject is asked and answers a series of questions, on the basis that false answers will produce distinctive measurements. The polygraph measures physiological changes caused by the sympathetic nervous system during questioning.

Polygraph test have been widely use here in the States. The Intelligence Community and Law Enforcement Agencies are using it for the obvious reasons. Few years back, polygraph have been used as part of Security Clearance process, which means you need to be polygraphed before you can be granted with a Security Clearance. I can see the relevance here. In order for the organizations/agencies to decide a suitable placement for a candidate, it is best to verify the candidates beforehand. The reason is being that, the only person that can verify what you've stated in your security clearance form (ie SF86) is nobody else except yourself.

The evolution of the psycho physiological test or lie detection test is a growing technology. There are few other options to detect lie using technology such as the Voice Stressed Analyzer (VSA) and Functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI). However the big question is that the reliability of the test. Polygraph technology was there ever since the 1970's but still people are still questioning the reliability. From my personal point of view, there are no single technology in the world is a perfect solutions. It is really hard to define how reliable is reliable enough especially in the Criminal Justice system. It is really a tough job for the investigators, prosecutors and adjudications, and not to forget the policy making people.

The overall session for the NSP602 class was interesting. The talk, the insider stories and the experienced shared was a splendid evening. The session ended with a polygraph demo. A classmate volunteered and the test was conducted upon him. It was like a magic show to us. Hehehe... Personally, I would say polygraph is reliable enough as a defection identification tool. With all the devices being strapped on your body, its enough for me to be nervous and not to tell lie. I would say, I am a bad liar anyways.

And now, the next question arises in my mind is "Is it safe to lie anymore?"

Wonders of the Virtual World

As far as we can remember, it was way back in 1997 when the world wide web were introduce in Malaysia. It was during college days, in small college in Kuantan. At that time there were no such thing as broadband or WiFi etc. It was purely dial-up connection. For home users, orang yang mampu je boleh guna internet ni. As for us, as a college student we do have to share. At that time, cuma ada satu terminal je dalam the whole college yang ada internet access for a start. Student yang nak pakai, kena register and allowed to use the facility for 30 minutes only. Dah la pakai dial-up, nak tunggu the webpages loading pun dah lama.

As time passed, cyber cafes were booming in Kuantan. More wonders were introduce over the net. Chat rooms and emails are among the favorite. At that time people will asked you, "Can I have your Hotmail?" to refer to emails. Since Hotmail je yang dominant at that point of time.

But time changes now. The world wide web dah jadi a borderless world. Broadbands and wireless connectivity have been part of our life now. It feels incomplete without internet access now. Be it using your computers or your smart phones, getting online is a must. Internet technology really helps in connecting distance becoming closer. Strangers becoming friends. Long lost friends together. When people meets together, they gather.

The recent hit on us is Facebook (FB). FB really a killer. It was not only us that have been hooked with Facebook. We find out a lots, and really lots of the people that we know are into it also. Friends from school(s), colleges, co-workers and families are FB members too. It really brings us closer to these people. Apart from connecting people, FB also have tons of applications and common interest groups that may you find intereseting. Some are really serious matters and some are just for fun. You share your stories - the past, the present and the future. Pictures from recent to the good old days which really brings good reminissance and memories.

Frankly, both of us really got hooked with FB. Everytime we get online, apart from emails, FB is among the window that are active on our screen. Updating our story / pictures, fools arond with the applications and catching up with our friends (virtually). Call us addicts, yes we are.
